Amber credit administration charges

I cancelled my insurance direct debit a month ago as my bike had been stolen , written off so therefor no longer owned by me.
I now have a letter from the company where i pay my direct debit too saying they are charging me because i cancelled my DD, a charge of £15. They dont seem to know i no longer have this insurance.
I was under the impression Bennetts ( brokers i got the insurance from) or ERstar (insurers) would not ask for any more due to policy being cancelled.
I am drafting a letter, any ideas how to word? and can i refuse to pay the admin charge?
