Homelets referencing process

I am in the process of moving from Liverpool to the midlands and am currently undergoing a referencing process with Homelets.
I was initially asked to pay £180 and to provide my driving license as ID and was told the process would only take a few days to complete.
I am now being told that even though my references from landlord and work are back and are fine, Homelets now want more address proofs from me.
The problem is, my gas and electric are pre payment meters so I dont have anything. Council tax bill was paid and binned a few months back. Water bill was paid and binned about 5 months ago. I dont use any credit so that leaves me with a mobile phone bill and bank statement (broadband bill is in my housemates name and hes not moving with me).
I begrudge giving them a bank statement as I believe a big cause of ID theft is the fact that we simply provide companies with far too much information about us when they really dont need it. They already know my name, address, date of birth, NI number, bank details, mothers maiden name, employment and salary details etc.
So I emailed them a mobile bill. Apparently this is unacceptable. They will take a landline bill but not a mobile bill. I tried to explain that there are a number of companies out there who will provide me with a landline without a credit check or any form of ID check, they will simply believe the details I provide to be true. Yet to get my mobile, I had to undergo a credit check. Surely this should carry more weight. I'm not prepared to bend over backwards to provide information when they cant provide me with a good reason as to why they need it. Not to mention that I will be moving out of this address in 11 days time so surely wanting proof of this address is a fairly redundent request.
Any advice would be much appreciated as I start my new job in the midlands on 23rd of this month and I really dont want to have to commute for any length of time.
Apologies for a very very long first post.

How would you feel about blacking out all the money details of your bank statement, so all they can see is the header with the bank details and your details. This is what i normally do, and I've had no complaints so far0

Contact the council or water people and ask for a duplicate final statement.
