(Superantispy, avira, comodo, XP)

I attempted a couple of the quicker items earlier including 'restore' explorer setting.. removing add-ons.

Also yesterday I had lots of 'critical' messages and kept closing down the computer. After searching on MSE & google saw it was a 'fake' bug/trogan and did a scan using SAS. It found a MSFake trojan and deleted/quarantened it... No more probs with 'critical' messages'. (not sure why security didnt stop it?)
I also discovered I had empty files in Start/All. I had the normal list of things put nothing inside, so I checked and saw a link at the bottom of the speed computer clean write=up about hidden files. I ran the 'unhide' link, which eventually said.. 'completed. But if for any reason hasnt worked, disable antiv and re-do'.
Mine didnt work so dis-abled avira and comodo, re-ran 'unhide', nothing. Any ideas whats wrong?
Also, when I went into System Tools bit to check my de-frag, theres only a message saying 'no add-on's'.
Not sure if these 2 are related?

    not clear what files are missing, could you elaborate?

    in windows explorer, tools, folder options, click view, tick view hidden files and folders.

    If you are posting because the machine is slow and haven't done so already, post your physical ram total, commit charge total, commit charge peak by doing CTRL ALT DEL, Task manager, performance - after virus infections this is the principle reason a machine goes slow so this information is important to help you


    If you haven't all ready done it, Install Malwarebytes and do a FULL (not quick) scan (after updating it), fix anything found before closing, otherwise you'll have to do it all over again. If anything was found reboot the machine before continuing. http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/

    Below is some specific (optional) advice based on your log which may help to improve speed and tidy things up.

    Install and run ccleaner (untick the google toolbar during the install). Untick the "windows log files" box, under the system heading before cleaning. Also Tick the java cache tick box under CCleaner, applications, internet to wipe the java cache which sometimes hides infections. http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/slim

    Install and run startuplite, accept suggested changes - http://www.malwarebytes.org/StartUpLite.exe

    Run Windows update, Internet explorer is out of date

    Download and install cleanmem http://www.pcwintech.com/cleanmem (download direct download). In windows explorer, go to c:\windows\tasks, click on the clean system memory task, schedule, advanced, and change it from every 30 minutes to every 5 minutes, then ok, ok. Find c:\program files\cleanmem\mini_monitor, run it and right click the icon (near the clock) to set it to automatically run at startup, show percentage to keep an eye on your ram use. If your machine is still slow after doing everything listed, post your commit charge and installed physical ram details from task manager performance

    Hi

    Eg, click Start/All Progs/ (the whole list of whats on my comp is there with its name and the same file-icon).. Comodo/Comodo Firewall/then doesnt allow to click and launch, only has a message.. (empty).

    Everything is still on the computer when I check in program files, its looks like something to do with set-up. I followed one of the instructions on the 60 min clean, and downloaded memclean as my machine is getting on. When I click start/all progs/cleanmem/.. it lists various options as it should.

    if you right click on the icon, do the properties point to a file (ie exe) that is there?

    do all programs run if you click the underlying exe?

    Having right-clicked on the Comodo icon (as an eg), theres no .exe file to click. Its the same for all others excluding the most recent downloads eg memfixer etc.

    Currently running malware bytes, Is this prog 'only' to run, or am I to save on comp for later? From yest when I did the other 3 in part 3, Kasp, Surfright and devbuild, .. are these to remain on also?

    I've got commodo, superantispy & avira as main progs - keep of go with your earlier list?

    One last thing, windows exp/tools/folder/show hidden.. no 'folder' option on dropdown menu.

    which infection did you have?

    resident av choice - its upto you, but multiple layers slow things down

    tdskiller, kaspersky, surfright can be uninstalled, I'd keep malwarebytes, and update and scan occasionally
