Tesco Public Liability Insurance Company

Is there any way I can find out who Tesco's use for their Public Liability Insurance ??
I had an accident in one of their stores in March and to date, have had no communication from them at all, not even a "sorry you had an accident, how are you?" phone call. All the details were recorded in the accident book and to begin with, they refused to allow me a copy, but I simply said I would request a Solicitor got one for me, it arrived by post 48 hours later !!!.
I have damaged my knee, the cartilidge and cruciate and medial ligament, I may need surgery if the Physio does not work.
When I first reported the accident, I was told Tesco's had public liability insurance and this could be claimed on to recover any medical costs.
I'm not looking to take them to court and get thousands out of them, it was an accident, but it has left me out of pocket and as I was told about the PL Insurance, I would like to at least be given the chance to put a claim in.
BUT, Tesco are refusing to speak to me !!!!
So, is there any way I can go straight to the Insurance company and try and claim that way ?
Any help would be appreciated.

your claim is against the shop, they might or might not pass it onto their insurance company to deal with. You need to start the formal claim process against the shop0

you said you had a accident, going to be a little noisey and ask how much you expect to recover and why.
Furthermore when you filled in the details in the accident book did they tell you, that you will receive a letter to your house within 14 days?
Contact headoffice/switchboard (not supplied because I cannot verify it as the offices are closed) and ask to speak to the complaints team. The complaints team will let you know of the proceedure, and will say that the complaint will need to be logged with the store.
What you do next depends on the claim amount. If the claim amount is less then £1000 then the store will mess you about, however if it is more then £1000 then a solicitor will take the claim for free and tesco will take note.
The fact is that when you have a minor injury (less then £1000) it is a lot of paperwork to prove your cost of injury, medical report £80-200. court costs £30 and solicitor costs £80 max
So a solicitor will be hard to get to represent you.
Hope this helps0 -

Tesco and other big companies may not have Public Liability insurance (it's not compulsory) as very often they chose to self-insure.
Have you made it clear to them that you are claiming compensation? Reporting it to them and putting it in the accident book is one thing, but unless you have mentioned compensation then that's likely to be it as far as they are concerned.
You need to write to them and clearly state why you are holding them responsible, and that you are looking for compensation due to their negligence. Alternatively, see a solicitor and let them deal with it (if your injury is at all serious I would recommend the latter).0 -

When I first had the accident, the store advised me of the procedure, I was told, within 14 days, I would be appointed a specialist Manager who, after making sure I was ok, would guide me through any compensation process. I was told this would cover any medical costs incurred, should the store be found liable.
My knee "popped" when I slipped but I could still walk, it wasn't until the next day, when I found myself with a huge knee and unable to weight bare on it, I spoke to the minor injuries unit who said they were full and it would be best to go to the Dr, which is what I did, only to be told there was a 20 week waiting list to see an ortho surgeon, so I went Privately and was seen within a week, I have seen the surgeon twice (£498) had an MRI ( £575 ) and am currently undergoing Physio and Acupuncture (£300) if the latter does not sort it, I am looking at surgery. As I am self employed, I could not afford to wait that long to see a specialist.
So, I am looking to recover those costs.
I have been in touch with an Accident Claims company who have said I can sue for blah, blah, blah and get up to £32000:eek: I don't want to sue, I just want my medical costs reimbursed."Dogs come when they are called. Cats take a message and get back to you" :j :j0 -
yep, and the way to get those cost reimbursed is to start a claim and threaten to sue0

If you don't want to use a solicitor, google "Ministry of Justice Pre Action Protocol Letter". You can copy and paste the relevant paragraphs, but I would suggest using a solicitor tbh.43580

You have found the problem with not using an ambulance chaser.
No one wil take you seriously, and you will be offered a pitence, if they ever do.
As you have found out, the only way to get any response is to threaten to use a solicitor.
If you want to get any payment, you will have to use one.
Use one, recover what is owed to you, and accept that's the way Tesco makes it work.0
