Just one final word about a high interest account- be aware that if you have more than £2500 in that account the interest rate drops for anything over and above the £2500 to 0.10%
    Overdraft - £1,300 5%
    Overdraft - £3000 5%
    Halifax C/C - £3,200 0% 08/07
    Virgin C/C - £1,500 0% 06/07
    Mortgage - £61,214.68 overpaid £700
    Olymic Challenge - £597.24

I'm never in credit long enough for that to effect me, plus dont earn that much a month either.
  • Halifax's account will be £10 per month, with you getting the higher interest rate, AA road side assistance, world wide travel insurance etc etc

The article above is a bit unfair on the new Halifax account as it claims the new account is a blow to free banking. However this will be an optional account for customers who want the premium benefits, not a charge levied upon customers with a basic account, unlike some other banks - the free current account option will still exist.

I pay for the AA yearly insurance and world wide travel insurance anyway, so it will probably save me a bit of money (as long as the insurance deals don't come with loads of catches!)
  • Yes they will be offering this account on top of the high interest one = not replacing it
