Software/script to do something like elance.com

Hi

I'm wanting to launch a site which would be along the lines of elance, but for a niche market, where people offering a service can find people wanting it and vice-versa.

Can anyone recommend possible software solutions for this type of project?

Cool I'd considered that but was hoping there may be something existing I could install. Have seen various packages but I have no experience of this type of web project.

Getafreelancer, Rentacoder... I used them in the good 'ol days when you could actually get honest work done. Nowadays they are packed out with positive-review 'rings' and a neat scam whereby you part with a down payment, no work is ever done but you are unable to post feedback because the freelancer has not yet been paid for project completion.

During the initial successful projects I did via that type of broking site, I staged payments per chunk of work done & tested. This suited both me & the contractor, not an issue.

But on a more recent attempt I had the aforementioned in post #5 poor experience, then researched and found these sites had gone to pot and are not enforcing accurate feedback rigorously like Ebay does. More's the pity.

So I ended up buying a package and getting it tailored by the supplier, as opposed to having open source stuff heavily customised like via Rentacoder.
