Was it perhaps an online account, such as an old A&L Premier Direct account? Any notification (to view your statement and any charges pending) for accounts such as those would be communicated by e-mail.The above should clearly show you that paying for credit scores is a complete waste of money!

It was an old A&L online account, however no emails, phone calls, telephone calls, received about status of my account, which i closed last year.

look like when i need to close my account it will be safer for me to just down grade to a basic account with no funding criteria and just leave it unused .

Your initial expression of dissatisfaction was in December - you now have the right to go to the FOS.

I would write to Santander stating:

    1) The account wasn't closed properly.
    2) You compensated me and promised to close it.
    3) Then failed to close it properly and my credit file has been impacted detrimentally as a result.

I would like you to do the following by 26th June, or I will refer to the FOS:

    a) Close the account properly.
    b) Correct my credit file with all 3 credit agencies.
    c) Confirm this to me in writing.
    d) Compensate me with the sum of £250 (insert your own figure here, but this amount feels about right to me).
    e) Make a donation of £50 to a debt charity.

    Seem reasonable?

i've visited local branch (wish i had in the first instance, nice person to work with) branch manager can see for herself on screen from all her notes that i have requested the account to be closed 4 times since december and they have failed on all 4 occasions, branch manager also thinks its a shambles on how things are being handled and are mean't to phone me back before 5pm today with news and a compensation settlement.. I've told her initial £50 compensation for the mis-handling of my account and the mess my credit file is in now is no longer acceptable. I will see what they come back with and let you all know.
  • argument against santender won.. i will know compensation tomorrow.

Surely a better form of goodwill would be for Santander to correct things as soon as an error is pointed out to them. Everybody makes mistakes, but what differentiates a good company from a bad one is how they deal with an error once it is discovered. Santander are execrable at this.
  • received £100 in compensation.. pretty lousy i think for nearly 8 months of suffering.

Surely your biggest reward is knowing that you're free of the numpties responsible for that chaos.
