Which is cheaper to boil water, electric or gas?

Thanks again. I was always taught to never drink from the hot water tap?
Good idea about the visible gauge though - I usually just brew one mug at a time and the current kettle although funky to look at is a nightmare to view how full. I'm also going to see if I can see on the Which guide which are most energy efficient.
Some kettles these days have a "special" thermometer shaped blob at the bottom of the measuring scale to help you gauge 1 cup/mug but a lot of normal kettles are pretty easy as a PP said.
They also do "instant" heat kettles that heat the water as you draw it from a "reservoir" not sure about that personally. Wonder just how hot is v. the trickle you may get out.
In both cases they are more costly."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

Why not just pour the water you need to boil into the kettle from the mug/cup you'll drink it from? Then you'll boil exactly 1 cup of water!0

A money saving tip when you get your new kettle...if you normally just brew two mugs of tea at a time, buy a kettle with a visible guage on the side and mark the two mugs mark so that you dont over fill it.
You could also fill it from the hot water tap but IMHO its only worth doing this if you have a stored hot water system that is gas fired i.e not a combi.[/QUOTE]
Everybody should make it common practice to NEVER consume water supplied by a HOT tap.
There is a possibility of water contamination from water storage systems.
Consumable water is from the kitchen sink cold tap, and the bathroom washbasin cold tap (cleaning teeth) These are fed directly from the mains, all other sources are a risk to health.0
