Cleaning Under a Fridge

Options
How do you do it??

I can just about reach the stuff near the front of the fridge with a chopstick but there are tons more dirt and toys and general debris near the back. It is sooo gross. :(

Is there anything you use to reach underneath that you can recommend? Is there some nifty gadget for moving a fridge easily or something that you use to sweep the junk out to the front? (My kitchen floor is tiled, if that makes any difference, and the fridge is one of those super tall, heavy fridge-and-freezer free-standing things.) Alternatively, do you just think: out of sight out of mind and ignore the mess? Honestly, it looks like stuff under there is breeding new life forms! :(

Any suggestions appreciated! :)

i have a side by side big huge american thing, i "boogey" it out by myself, the flooring makes it easy
i just need to be careful of the tubes that its plumbed in with
you can get wee wheely things, but you would need to get it onto them in the first place
i dont have a fitted kitchen though, as its free standing, i do have room to get mine out quite easily

what about one of those big long (weird) duster things for venetial blinds?
or a cloth/baby wipes on a stick, would save moving it

I totally cannot move the fridge myself - it weighs a ton. :( Do these wheel things work? I could make hubby put them on, if it was a one-off thing for him. Would they glide over tiles?

Could look into venetian blind dusters - sounds promising, if they are long enough. A wipe on a stick wouldn't do it (I think) because I need to hoick things out and I think a longer stick would just push things further back. (Have already tried a chopstick and found it difficult to "hook" toys out.)

The wheels would work and glide over tiles, they would make the fridge move easily. Would your husband be willing to help you move the fridge once a month? That would be the most moneysaving option.

I used to use the under the fridge wheel things they work fine and lock into place once you have replaced the fridge.. might take two of you to get it on them in the first place and they do lift the fridge an inch or two so you need to have space above . I had to take mine out when we moved as the fridge just fitted in the gap under a cupboard.. but they really do make moving white good easier..

Great for under appliances and down the back of radiators. The fabric bit pulls off the stick bit and goes in the washing machine.

We had a big fridge and it didn't get properly cleaned underneath until it broke and some nice men came and removed it. I was rather embarrassed when I saw the muck underneath when they took it out. :o I used to just poke around underneath it with a duster on the end of a long stick. :D

I've got a smaller, lightweight fridge now so it's easy for me to move, so it gets cleaned underneath when I remember. :o

That looks ideal!! :) And multipurpose too - might *just* be able to clean the top of the washing machine with it.

Thanks for everyone's comments. All appreciated. And, no, I don't think hubby would be up for moving the fridge once a month - doubt he'd been keen to do that once a year! :p

Shame on him then. I can't imagine being married to a man who isn't prepared to help with a small household job once a month. Your post has made me appreciate my husband even more.

I have got a flatmate and it is very handy. I use it to clean under the fridge and on top of the washing machine. If you are craft minded you could probably make something similar. It is basically a felt cover that slides onto a flat piece of stick.
