I find alot of people's answers on here are very rude and clever. When someone asks a question i find that most the reply's are very smug. Not my questions in particular but just people in general. People come on here for advice and help with a situation they have only to have know it all people that have to give smart answers! I am not new to forums either.

I totally disagree with you. I find a lot of people on here are very helpful and when you think they have to repeat the same info and advice over and over again, they are very patient and helpful. I have learned a lot through reading posts and replies here. (Only started to post in this section)
Try and remember that the way you read the written word is sometimes not the way it was intended to be read, if you see what I mean. For instance, I don't want you to think I'm being harsh and having a go at you replying to your post. I just want to state how I feel, that my experience is different to yours, but you might read it differently. And I'm not being patronising either...

Not really, debt is such an emotive subject you are always going to get confrontation.
Add to that the birth of the "keyboard warrior" which happens on all forums you take the rough with the smooth.
People are entitled to opinions and there are a lot of opinions when it comes to debt.
Overall my experiences here are positive and yes you just block any who are just out to wind up and preach.
Yes we all have opinions which might not agree with others, but on the other side there can also be too many saints.
Personally my difficulty is the people who come on just looking for a way not to pay their debt. Quick enough to spend the money and just looking to be clever by not paying it. I don't tend to get drawn into their threads though because it just winds me up. Call me old school but I spent my money (and the banks) and now I must pay it back.
But overall this is a good place for us to work through our debts together.0 -
With all due respect I think you're being a little over sensitive, some people are very polite and helpful while others are shall we say very forthright AND helpful. Try not to take it personally, most of the time people will be giving useful advice. On an open forum you have to expect some variation in how people reply and post comments. I'd rather have the openness of the forum instead of a censored version.0

I've noticed that some people just want other posters to agree with them rather than be honest and tell them things they don't want to hear or do.
There are some sarky comments especially when a poster seems rather naive, can't understand why they need to do the "right thing" or think they are entitled to state benefits so they can change their lifestyle. Some people dismiss every piece of advice as unworkable.
But there are also some real barstewards with very sharp tongues but no real advice welcome or not. These comments I ignore, don't give them the satisfaction of rising to the bait.0 -

I am frankly staggered with just how ingrained the "us" and "them" the attitude here is.
I've just requested a post I made be deleted entirely due to a poster who just trolled through the entire post. Unfortunetly, this person appears to consider himself to them the "US" camp and spoke for the board.
No reasoning what so ever - just pure bully tactics, and personal attacks. MSE SORT IT OUT.0 -
...! I am not new to forums either...
With fear of my post being taken the wrong way too, could I ask what attracted you to MSE then?
Or are you suggesting this is a common trait you feel exists across all the forums you visit?"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

Everytime i google a question or problem with regards to money, MSE seems to pop up which tells me it popular. As for the reason i added '' im not new to forums either'' was to state that this is not new to me however i find that this kind of subject (money) seems to attract people that ''know best''. There are many forums out there that i use that are a lot friendlier with how they reply to problems.0 -
The responses you are getting will cover the wide spectrum of human nature the positive and the negative. Why because everyone has a relationship with money and therefore an opinion.
This forum covers every aspect of money so you will get a varied response, from those that have got it, those that had it then lost it, those that didn't have it and now have, those that have never had it but want it and those that have always had it and don't know what it is like to be without it.
A varied response just as you would if you asked people about money, in the pub, the office, at the bus stop, on holiday, or hanging upside down with the trapeze artists in a circus tent. It's all part of life's rich tapestry....Debt-Free day 30th September 20140 -
You will find good and bad in every walk of life.
MSE is a microcosm of that, a world in miniature where virtually all aspects of society - friendly, unfriendly, helpful, unhelpful, rich, poor and so on - are represented.:cool:0
