Can someone explain why my Nokia phone has the word (empty) in brackets below the network logo?

Nokia 3330, Sims used, Virgin, Vodafone and Orange.

The phone has numbers stored and accessible as do all the sims, but shortly after turning on the logo appears, then under the logo in brackets appears the word (empty).

The battery can be in any charge situation from nearly flat to fully charged, the word even appears whilst the battery is being charged and nearly full.

This only started about 7-9 months ago, prior to that it never appeared.

TIA.

Do you have 'Cell Broadcast Messages' turned on? probably in your message settings menu.

Can't find anything relating to that, plus I have never changed anything to the phone, it just started doing it.
