Barclay Card PPI

I will apologise now if that has been posted before I did look back but could not see a post of this nature.

Since 2003 I have been paying payment protection Insurance on my Barclay Credit Card. I called in February to cancel it and the customer services at Barclays asked if I was making a complaint. I said that I was as I had never asked for this on my account. They then sent me a Form to fill in which I did and returned saying that I had never asked for the PPI. I have just heard today that they are not refunding any of it because they say that I ticked the box asking for the PPI and I was sent a policy telling my what my cover entailed in connection with this PPI. I certainly dont remember ticking the box but even more I never received a copy of any Insurance Document with details of my cover. Should I just give up with this fight for my money back? Please help.

Simply not remembering would not be grounds for complaint. I do not remember being born but my mother tells me she was there at the time and I definitely was!

It is, I'm afraid, quite normal not to remember exact details of what happened. Our memories are unable to retain everything they take in, so you could quite easily have ticked the box and no longer remember it.

The policy document may have been included in the same document as the terms and conditions of the policy and would have almost certainly been sent with your first card.

For the complaint to be upheld, it would be necessary to show that the application or policy terms and conditions were unclear, unfair or misleading.

Your complaint appears to be that you say you never asked for it. They have confirmed you ticked the box asking for it and that it was postal (so no seller). So, on that basis they have comprehensively blown your complaint out of the water.

If you want to disagree with that you need to tell them where they are wrong and provide your evidence to support your side of the story.

Remember that having PPI is not a complaint reason. Its about how it was sold and set up that matters. Set up doesnt apply to credit cards as they dont have single premium. So, how it was sold is the only area of concern. They are saying no-one sold it but you bought it.

  • So should I say that none of this was explained to me properly and that they sold it to me without me clearly knowing what it entailed. Or maybe I should go and see the CAB.

    Thanks for you help

They are saying they never sold it to you and you bought it. If you buy it then they dont need to explain it to you or let you know what it entails as you are making the choice to buy it.

Its a bit like you buying your car insurance on moneysupermarket and chosing to include legal expenses and then complaining that you have legal expenses.

Remember that there is nothing wrong with having PPI. It is how it was sold to you that matters. You have to show mis-sale and they are saying they didnt sell it.

  • I did not ask for this on my account they put it on without my consent. I get six month full pay and 6 months half pay why would I need this and obviously they know that yet still they put it on my account. I feel they ripped me off. How do I know they did not tick the box?
