Jewellery is always good.
Personally I'd rather something old from eBay or an antique shop than something new off the high street, but hopefully you know her tastes.
If you're really clever you could try to get something that matches something she already has. My gran bought me a bracelet with elephants on that perfectly matches a great ring I'd had and loved for years. Brilliant gift.0 -
Get a T-shirt for babe saying 'I have the best Mummy in the world' on it and dress babe in it,she will be thrilled also you could gte footprints and handprints done in clay and frame for her, cheap, quick and very effective.

M&S do nice styles (and have a good returns policy  )if you're rooting in her undies drawer then try to take note of shapes as well as sizes as we women are very fussy and getting a thong for a shorts wearer is as bad as getting shorts for a thong wearer
good place for handbags is https://www.reddirect.co.uk
if she's got pierced ears then a pair of heart earrings or diamonds always god down well. Or John Rocha do some lovely silver (check she wears silver...) necklaces with chunky pebble style hearts on (jewellery.tv has them at a good price - go through Quidco...)
my OH has used the rules, things that are pretty, things that smell nice, and things that are pretty AND smell nice... as he read that in a mag one year and he's not been far off since0 -
Try and think of something she wouldn't spend the money on herself, I bought OH a DVD set of the final West Wing series, for her birthday recently, which she never saw due the kids going to bed when it was on. Also gave her a page of vouchers for 'West Wing' time so that she could sit and watch each episode in peace while I took the little one to the park. It was parcelled with a snuggly throw she could wrap up in, a large mug and some expensive drinking chocolate which I promised to make on the way out of the door.
Lots of brownie points!!!!!0 -
But her a torch and watch her face light up0
