  • I would recommend (reading a management book at the min) and from reading the times, they all recommend that you dont drink at Xmas do's.

The amount of people that have made fools of themselves by drinking too much at the office xmas party is severe!

Im not saying you have, but for people like me who are career minded but have also been known to make fools of ourselves under the influence of the devils water just take the car !!
  • Our xmas party was a 3 course meal at a posh golf course. I didn't drink as I'm pregnant and afterwards they all went clubbing and I came home to bed. LOL.
Not very exciting.. especially as we have a stingy boss and had to pay for our own meal (£17.95!!). Food was good though!

  • Ours was last night we had a lovely meal and all got rather drunk! lol...it's a small informal company.

Of course in true MSE way, I drank and ate all I could for I wasn't paying a penny! :)

No hangover though - I must have eaten enough for it to really help!

Ours is tonight at Claridges, very exciting! All funded by work so MSE friendly. I can't wait, have been looking forward to this for weeks.

With regard to drinking at office dos, getting plastered isn't the best call. But having a few drinks and chatting to those higher up can have a good effect. My friend got chatting to her boss at her do last week, she hardly ever sees him in her job (travels a lot) so she took the opportunity and ended up asking quite brazenly (and almost jokingly) for a promotion. And she got it. They wouldn't have had that kind of conversation outside the informal, social arena so it can work in your favour if you're smart about it.

Just got back from ours, we were booked for chinese buffet but they aren't doing it at lunchtimes anymore so they brought loads of dishes to the table, £5.75 a head & the boss brought all the drinks....feeling quite merry at my desk this afternoon!

This is my first non-management xmas do - they used to work out quite expensive as I liked to buy everyone a drink or two to say thankyou for their really hard work throughout the year & the company was a bit stingy with the cash towards it, nice to be on the receiving end for a change!

    Merry xmas!

I work in a school and would normally go to the kids christmas dinner and panto etc, and i also go to the works do at a place called Pine Lake (MSE friendly meal paid for). I have never drunk at a works do its too far for the taxi back!

Its a sad affair -but i will be going to a local restaurant on the night of the do and having a top notch steak. Yum

  • Our work do is tonight, just a meal in town and then round some pubs which unfortunaly we have to pay for ourselves. A couple of the senior managers have put in a bit of money for the drinks kitty which is quite cool. Nobody botheres about making an !!! out of themselves because there is never room for promotion in my job, the only thing would be the shame on Monday!
    I :heart2: saving money
  • Mine was a couple of weekends ago now. Free wine all night and I took full advantage. Felt dreadful the next day _pale_ however all I ever do when I am drunk these days is get very sociable and dance a lot so, think I was ok....!

Don't take it too seriously....Christmas parties would be soooooo boring if everyone was sober. :D

  • Mine was last night so we're all a bit quiet in the office today - I think cocktails are poisonous to the over 30s!

We started off at a new local pub, then to a swanky bar for cocktails and then to a restaurant for dinner, and taxis home. All paid for by work so very MSE. As usual all my colleagues dithered for ages about where they wanted to go, so in the end I just decided where I'd like to go and booked it - working with a bunch of ditherers means I get to eat in all my favourite fancy restaurants. :rotfl:

Well as I work for myself I had no Xmas do but I can tell you of 2 unfortunate Xams do stories. Firstly my brother had his large corporate do last week. A bloke in another department my brother only vaguely knew got absolutely plastered and started a massive row with his boss....so much so that he smack his boss breaking his nose. There was a big squffle and the police had to be called. He woke up next day confused why he was in a police cell not remembering anything...oh appart from to ask to ring his boss to apologise as he was in a police cell and wasn't sure why so may be late for his job. Which he got a reply of 'what job?'
Also remember many years ago my work mate was sat at one end of the table and me at the other (50 people or therabouts). He was 17 and his girlfriend was there who was 15 at the time. Suddenly he stands up after lots of drink...and announcing he's marrying his girlfriend. Bad move...as he couldn't remember a thing about it but his girlfriend could as she couldn't drink. Oh well if you're going to ruin a relationship...might as well do it in style! :o
