I hope someone can help me please.
I have had a new laptop and had the data from the old LT transferred to the new one. When I go into iTunes, it has all my songs/playlists/no of times played etc but when I click to play something it says it can't locate the file, locate yourself. If I locate myself it duplicates the entry with a zero play rating. How can I get it to locate the files without having to do it manually and thus duplicating each entry and losing playlists etc.
I would really appreciate any help anyone can offer. Many thanks.:T

This can be a real pain to fix.
First steps: do you know which folder is your music stored in on your new computer? For example c:\users\poppy\My Music
Also, which operating system did your old and new laptops havepoppy100 -
If all your music used to be in a certain place ie music folder or itunes folder move a copy of your tracks there ie recreating the old path.
The other options are more drastic and involve deleting all entrys in itunes then adding all your music again this at least will get the paths correct. But am pretty sure youll lose your playlists etc.
This is my main gripe with Itunes and windows media player the library aint live you move or alter a song you have to tell it.
Many other players foobar for example, you just tell them a folder to watch and it updates within seconds.
Foobar(needs plugin for ipod) is not for novices really and can be a bit much at the start. Not sure if jangle and mediamonkey can handle ipods but both seem worth a look.If your one of the those that actually buy music from itunes your stuck i guess.
Now is a good time to sort your music collection, get the folder structure and file names sorted it makes it so much easier.

All my tracks are in the original folder and it was a straight forward copy of the data across from the hard drive of the previous lap top although I fear that the new lap top has not been named the same as the old one so would this cause it to have been lost - and if so, how do I name this lap top the same as the old one?
Thank you so much for the advice.0 -

Both LTs are Windows 7 and files are stored in my music - think it may come down to the fact that the LT has been given a different name otherwise how would iTunes have the info re play count.playlists etc?
Thanks for your help0
