Hi, Help needed urgently!

I've just bought a download of microsoft office so that my son can do his homework and I now have the choice of downloading the 32 or the 64 bit version, but as I don't understand the difference, i don't know which is the appropriate one to choose. Can anyone who understands these things please offer any advice? The program is to be downloaded onto our laptop which runs windows 7.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help. Regards kje.

Microsoft recommends you don't go anywhere near 64-bit Office... yet.

    See here.

if you go to control panel then click on system it will tell you there the version off windows 7 that your running.

Look under the heading System then underneath it you'll see 32 bit operating system or 64 bit.

Don't panic either way. The same key will work for both and you can still have access to either download at any time. The key is the most important thing.

    Wow.

He could probably have done his homework in Notepad!

If in doubt, go with 32 bit.

Hi, thanks everyone for such speedy replies.

I've checked on the control panel and it says I'm running the 64 bit version of windows 7. Does that mean that i should download the 64 bit version of Office? Or as other posters sugggest should I steer clear of the 64 bit version?

(As an indication of how untechi I am, I didn't think that I'd managed to post this query so I typed it out again so, sorry if there is a second version of this query posted).

Thanks again to all those techies out there trying to help - it's very much appreciated. kje.

As suggested, use the 32 bit version as it more compatible. You can also have a download of the 64 bit version on Standby. Which version of Office 2010?

    Hi again and thanks again.

    Some further queries.

    What's an emulator?

And for that matter what's a "bit"

And what's the difference between 32 and 64 bits?

Is 64 bits not twice as good as 32 bits? Sounds as though it should be.

Still don't know what to do so further advice would be very welcome. kje.
