P&P problem

HI all, just after a bit of advice.. I won an auction for an item for just over £20 last weekend...the buyer had 'collect in person free' on it but someone had asked if the seller would pack it up and post it to which the seller said yes no problem to post. They also updated the description to say would post out...

I waited a couple of days after sending a couple of messages just to say I would pay the full amount by paypal when they advise me the postage cost. They took a while to respond at all and said they were sorry for the delay but would be going to the post office later that day..

Today I received a new invoice with £25.00 courier cost on it! it is a food mixer... I have gone back and said could they just send it parcel post as it would be cheaper and they have come back and said 'in that case please arrange collection' (impossible as miles away)

Does this sound acceptable to people! should I expect to be paying that price?

I would think the seller had a right to choose how he sends it as the item was originally collection only. A buyer has no right to choose how they want something sent. It might have been best to get a firm quote before bidding .

OP it wouldnt cost that to post I doubt - probably no more than £10 using parcel 2 go or interparcel but as Soolin said they can charge what they want you could then leave correct stars etc!

They could send it via courier for around £9. I take it they hadn't put in the listing how much they would charge for p&p?

I can see what you mean, I have now said I will arrange a courier to pick up so see what happens now....I should have not gone for it until I knew the cost...

hermum they didn't put a cost but answered questions from people saying they would post it no problem, they didn't say courier only or anything...

Any seller with sense would imemdiately say no to a buyer sending their own courier..so be warned.

They have probably priced it up at the post office with parcelforce. Some post offices seem to forget to tell senders about the standard parcel service.

If they now know the weight - they might be willing to use courier.

Send them a link to parcel2go. DHL would be £8.56 paid for with paypal.

They have told me to arrange collection and also when someone asked if they could arrange their own courier it was no problem..

Will see if I get an answer, if not I could perhaps refuse to purchase after all which might suit them as I think he was hoping to get more from the sale...also said they live 12 miles from a post office...you would have thought that if that were the case,then when people had asked about posting that would have either been mentioned!

This probably makes me look bad, but believe me I have bought and sold many things (not as a business) and not ever really had any problems with ebay...I go out of my way to package items up well and send them first class and have never asked over the odds for p&p...
