Help - Superdeal from Southern Electric

Hi

I have been following with interest Martins TV & Radio appearances and the recommendation to check the comparison sites for a better deal.

Our house was built in themid-eighties in conjunction with Southern Electric, there is no gas on the estate, so all of our heating etc is electric.

A number of years ago we moved to Superdeal which gives us a boost to our hot water and heating at time sof low demand which really helps in the winter

But I cannot find any comparable tariif on the comparison sites, the only advic eI get is change back to Economy 7 and then shop around. But I can't find any one to tell if this would be a good move and if I could save money!

Has anyone any advice? Have you changed?

The last tiem I enquired about gas, they want over £3K to join me to the main and aleast another 10 homes in the street!

    Hello,

My father is (now was) on Superdeal.

I offered to go through his bills for him and see if there is a better deal.

You are right, Superdeal is a rare sort of "Economy 10" tariff, and thus cannot be compared on the sites. Luckily, I know my way round a spreadsheet and an electricity bill.

After several enquiries, which included a total of 1h 45m on hold on the phone to EDF Energy (I dread to think what they are like, if you're in an emergency - Anyone else has problems with EDF? A whole new thread?) and Southern Electricity, the lady was astonished when she confirmed my calculations that Superdeal is not a "super deal" at all, as it proved more expensive than Economy 7!

What's more it is IMPOSSIBLE to fix your tariff when you are on Superdeal, so you have to put up with the price hikes whether you like it or not.

My advice for anyone on Superdeal is to check their usage, and compare it to Economy 7. If E7 is cheaper, get Southern to change your meter ASAP and then hit the comparison sites.

For my Father, at least, Superdeal has been a massive con - surely against trades description acts! What's more, once you're on it, you have to get a meter re-fitted to get out, which may well put a lot of people off...

Lets hope the OP reads the reply. They joined 6 weeks ago and left after 6 minutes and to date have not returned
