no internet wireless or lan

i have had a new o/s (xp) put on a netbook.
has soon as i got it back i have installed a dongle,went on www fine,
i have gone to do some updates today,to connect via my wireless network,and it wont connect,keeps trying to renew ip address,i have cmd,ipconfig/renew.
tried severel things and ended up finding a lan cable out,it wont even connect with that,
when on wireless network, it tries to aquire network address,then says limeted or low connectivity,but with full green bars has signal.
running out of time and patience now......any ideas???
i 'm on wirelss network now,thats fine,so connection is there

    Which netbook? Genuinely licenced XP or a dodgy copy? All Drivers installed?

    i rang the pc shop that installed the o/s ,they was great,took it straight back,they obviously hadnt put the drivers on!
    sorted for the LAN now but still wont go on wireless,it say aquireing ip address,but doesnt.

    Obviously not so 'great' then. Since we have no idea which machine you have and whether the shop has configured it properly, I'm not sure what we can do from here.
  • its a bit of a long shot.... but try changing the channel your router broadcast on.

    you will need to go into your router setting,
