Help with drop curb into drive

my dad has received a letter from the council stating he is not allowed to use the drive outside the house because there is no drop curb, they said he would have to pay the council to do this work. He has a blue badge due to a disability, could he recieve any help with paying for this as he only gets a pension and cant afford it, many thanks.

My thoughts exactly, apply to your local highways department. Its certainly not a couple of weeks job though it can take months.

I wonder why this has arisen, has a neighbour complained perhaps? If so they will be shocked to see the notifications of intending works being displayed on lamposts.
  • We had ours dropped by the council, We had to have an assesment by social services (I think) and they got the council to drop it and put a H bar across it.

The problem with this is if anyone else on the street has a badge they can use it too.

Then get another on put in! Why should the tax payer pay for improvements that would add value to the house? People have to pay for a drop kerb.

Why doesn't he pay for this out of the DLA he is getting which is a benefit paid to cover additional costs because of a disability?

We got the pavements resurfaced in our road last year and all got their drop kerbs done by the council free!

I think he has based it on having a blue badge but it doesn't necessarily mean DLA
Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.

Always worth it to see when the council are going to do any paving/kerb repairs replacement as they will often do a cheaper deal then, had mine droped recently in Birmingham for £146 although I have yet to get a garage put in had to get the surveyor to use his imagination as to where the garage would go and that the current layout of the garden is not going to be the end layout.

As to help you will only get this from discretionary grants (charities and the like) or through the loacl authority if you can get an assessment that assesses you as needing it, unlikely in our cash strapped times when they are trying to refuse things they have a statutory requirement to provide by fiddling with the rules, illegally in the case of Birmingham the courts decided.
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.
