Anyone ever thought that energy companys "MIGHT" actually drop prices one day?

I know i know before everyone jumps down my throat..... I,ve got more chance of winning millions on the lottery before that happens! :D

In The Times todayl, some energy 'think tank' reckoned that gas prices are set to rocket for the next 10 years. I hope not, but it is a decent newspaper and they are normally quite reliable with what they publish.

Well it,s looks like i,ll be going back to the good old days then and get a fire going or a logburner.

Yep the good old times when my family and everyone else,s did,nt have central heating.

The days of me handing over ridiculous amounts of my hard earned money to these rip-off merchants will be a thing of the past soon enough for me at least!
  • I did indeed fix- eventually going for EDF's fix till 2012. However i definitely will ring OVO tomorrow and get my usage in Kw and then redo the comparison sites. Still in cooling-off period so can get out if need be. Thanks for all advice/help.

I rang SP on Friday after listeneing to Martin on the radio. Spoke at great length to a very nice lady. Was offered a capped deal `till June 2013 and a "free" unifi plug in consumption meter for £93.00 per month. Being fixed now on £78.00 per month, I stated this was too much. After lots of deliberation and nonsense sales talk, I was offered the same deal without the "free" unifi tester meter at £85.00 per momth. This is a two year deal, saving £8.00 per monrth and no meter thingy. Seems like a rise of about 10% to me, rather than the 15% that is coming. All I need to do now is use less fuel (LOL)
A watched pot always boils. :j

The papers, the websites, the switching sites, the 'experts' nearly all say fix. Why? Simply because it's their business to write something down or encourage you to change.

I have yet to see a properly made out financial appraisal or model making the case for or against.

Instead, you need to do your own full assessment. If you look at some of my other posts, there is one which shows how to work it out.

In my own case, there is a huge premium to fix. Generally I feel that by shopping around regularly you can beat the fix, if you are so inclined.

Sometimes you can fix for about the same (occasionally less) than current average prices. I generally assume this is a good deal as prices tend to increase steadily and the assurance for the time period is worth something too.

At any rate, I took this gamble and it paid off, gas and electric have gone up since I took out a price fix (was one of the cheapest suppliers anyway at the time I checked) and I'm now paying a lot less than I would be if I'd stayed with variable pricing. I'm probably going to fix again.
