There are so many fare variations DO NOT go by the name given to a particular ticket. It is possible to find several fares with the same name but at different prices.

Go to the website of the TOC concerned and:
    a. see what the fare is.
    b. see which trains it can be used on

A super off peak is not necessarily cheaper than an off peak - just like you can sometimes get a first class ticket for less than a standard class on the same train.

so the only restriction for super off peak is they cant be used until after 10am? im assuming off peak is 930am but ill quite happily travel half an hour later for a lot cheaper ticket..... seems to good to be true but its the only specific restriction mentioned on those links... hmm...

    thanks all!

No - it varies route by route. As a broad generalisation that's fine but you need to check it out for your particular journey. For Tunbridge Wells it seems to be off peak leaving after 0900 and superoffpeak after 1000. So an hour in it.

im just trying to budget for tickets as i work freelance and can (mostly) dont need to be travelling into London at commuter times. Im happy to assume i will be able to leave after 10am most of the time so can budget at those prices for 90% of my journeys.

    thanks again!
