Gym Membership cancellation

Hi All,

I have been trying to cancel my gym memebership and took to like months to do, i found out that they can temporarily cancel the memebership on health reason and wanted to do this, but despite leaving msg with reception no one got back to me. So i then cancelled it was told by reception to send an email giving one month notice which i did in april 2011, no one came back to me so emailed another guy at my local gym he said that the one month notice would began from May 2011 and that the first email was not received by them plus the email given to me was a general one and not specific to the local gym, I was given the wrong email by their staff so not my problem right ? I cancelled my DD so this month they DD bounced and they are chasing me for money. I am so annoyed as i have kept phoning them and emailing them to cancel my membership and now they want to pay for an extra month. I am waiting for the manager to come back to me as she is on holiday right now.

Can i ask has anyone been in similar situation ? also what are my rights in this situtation.

thanks very much

Missykay

    your rights?
well for starters your whole methodology is flawed
this sort of transaction needs to be done in writing and via recorded delivery
I would keep any further contact by writing

Which gym? I find it hard to believe they would tell you to email.

rights as in when they give me the incorrect information and a breakdown in communication from their side why should i be liable to pay an extra month, i dont understand why they have a policy where you can cancel membership over the phone or via email, as their is no proof of either on you could end up paying extra month as in my case.

thanks Hollydays funny how they never seem to give you the correct information as when i phoned them and asked them specifically the procedure for cancellation she did not mention that if i dont get any acknowledgement email then to assume that they did not get it dam you have to be very smart otherwise always trip over the T&C : o ((

thanks all for your help !

The whole thing about terms and conditions is you are expected to read them.
