ps3, infamous, dead drops

i'm having problems with the playstation forum so i am hoping someone will be able to help here. in the game infamous my current mission is to find dead drops. i have no idea what they look like. i have no idea what to do if i do find one. it keeps telling me to press l3 and follow the grey indicator but theres no grey indicator. i have found a map online showing the locations. i have been to a few and there is nothing there and in some of these locations it says i am out of range and to go back to the last dead drop.
this game is seriously annoying me. i'm glad it was free.

there is an abort mission option. why do you think i should start again?
i now know what they look like as when i walked behind a satelite dish it said press triangle to collect dead drop. do i have to collect them in a certain order because nothing happened when i went to the next 2.
if it wasnt for the online map i would be totally stuck because there is no grey indicator like it says there is.

Dead drops are in the satellite dishes, they aren't in a hidden order they're just fragments of encoded messages

When you press L3 you get the grey indicator on your circular map it highlights the vicinity, then you have to listen out for the noise it makes to find your nearest one.

how come when i go to other dead drops i get told i am out of range and that i should go back to the last dead drop. do i have to stay within the red border drawn on the map?
there is no grey indicator when i press l3. the edge of the mini map flashes but thats all.

a third one has now worked. i got a message and now there is an indicator for the next mission.
by the way does it save automatically. i played for a short while yesterday and saved game manually. when i loaded the game today it put me right at the beginning of the game.

I got stuck on this one as well, when you hit L3 the outside of the map flashes grey, the location of the next drop is roughly the direction that the grey flash fades last, as you get closer the grey gets more intense until it is on the same part of the map as you then you get it's exact location. I found the 3rd one before the 2nd but it didn't want to know until I had found the 2nd
