    It's very common to find cooker circuits on 30A fuses and unless you are connecting a particularly big cooker to it there should be plenty of capacity. Just bear in mind that the fuseboard itself might not cope so well though if it is old.

    Fuseboards are found in lounge cupboards in loads of houses, particularly in Victorian terraces.

    This propert was probably built late 70's/early 80's so I imagine the electrics/consumer unit are original. How do you know when these things require replacing/rewiring?

    Only really by having and electrician test and inspect the wiring - called a PIR (Periodic Inspection Report)
