utilities

We are getting close to completion and have received details of who currently supplies the property with electric, gas etc. do we have to stick with these suppliers or can we choose whoever we want. Do we jus ring up and inform them??

We are first time buyers and not sure what happens

    Best to do both and check who gives the cheapest price. Make sure you read the meters the day you move in so that you are not paying the previous owners bills.

    Mortgage-free Glee!
    Here is what I did,

    1. read meter
    2. call existing company with meter reading.
    3. they told me i was on a standard (read expensive) tariff and changed me onto a cheaper one with no tie in period.
    4. this gave me time to find the cheapest provider for me
    5. switch to cheapest provider by calling them up, they will liase with old provider
