Fantastic help guys thanks very much. Our soil is clay and no doubt due to the dry period the ground is totally solid at the moment and these little beggers are thriving.
I'll give it a good go with the fork over the weekend. With the combination of that and the weed and feed I applied I hopefully should see an improvement0 -
forking does not aid compaction, hence a hollow tine aeration is recommended. forking will help get oxygen and nutrients into the root zone but that's it. tbh whilst its so dry you will probably find it like trying to put a fork in concrete anyway.
you can get hand hollowtiners for about a fiver, hard work though and I would do it in winter when the ground is a lot softer or if you have a large garden there are machines that make light work of it or companys that can do it for you.0 -
