Forgotten Hotmail password

I have a Hotmail email account that I created solely for use with my PS3 account. Trouble is, it was a while ago that I created it and now I've forgotten it (I know, I should have recorded it somewhere or chosen something more memorable)

Anyhow, when I try to use the Reset Password option all I get, after entering the 6 character test to make sure I'm not a spambot , is an error message that says "The Windows Live ID is incorrect. Please try again."

Anybody had any success with resetting passwords this way?

After a period of time (30 days minimum - probably 6 months) of non activity, the email address will be defunct.

You could try to open a new account using same Id - other than that there is nothing you can do or be allowed to do if you have forgotten your memorable data.

You're absolutely right. As an afterthought last night I sent an email to that address - bounced back this morning. So, I tried to create a new account with the same name and it was available. Bit of a pain but I suppose I can see why they do it. Thanks for your insight.

I haven't used my old @msn.com email for well over 18 months, and I never changed the password for it but cannot get into it. I went through their lengthy procedure where you tell them your life's history in a private forum they make for you, but they said the info wasn't enough to identify me, so the account will remain locked out. I have tried emailing the address and I get no bounce back so it must still be active even after all this time of no use!
