Selling up might be more difficult than you think - buyer's survey will no doubt pick up on the crack and buyers will run a mile.

Until you know what is causing it you will never know how much it will cost to repair or how quickly it will get worse. Have you got buildings insurance? Check your policy to see what you are covered for.

Were you watching the Sarah Beeny - My house is falling down programme on C4 earlier? Their house had a 60mm lean on gable wall and it turned out to be something as simple as faulty drain allowing water to flood under the foundations and cause the house to sink on one side.

Cracks and house movement can also be caused by shrinkage of the ground through drought conditions, like most of the country is suffering this year.

Its something that cannot honestly be answered on a forum - get a surveyor to advise you.

Or if this is just a total wind-up, perhaps a psychologist could tell you why you have an irresistable urge to waste our time :rotfl:

We are at present in a Medieval village just in a moderate earthquake risk area. Many houses in the village have small/not so small cracks in them. I can't recall one falling down.
Can I repeat 'Medieval village' ie. they've been here a while!

Maybe the OP's house fell down, which is why he's not been back.
