I don't understand - if the letters are not in your name, how would it affect your credit ?

It won't, but if someone registered at the OP's address starts running up debts, there is a small possibility that debt collectors may come knocking on their door.
I don't know if it's possible to do a credit check on all people registered at an address, but it's certainly worth looking in to.
The chances are that there is nothing too dodgy going on, but with the possible problems than could possibly happen, why take the risk?

It's not possible to check someone else's credit report, however one's own report will show anyone they are "financially linked" to.

However that is the most likely thing that has happened, because the only benefit for you to order a O2 free sim cards to some random address is to get a cashback, maximiles etc.

not really, the OP may have upset someone who has signed up for these free sim cards as they are free using a false name but the OPs address (this does happen) just to annoy the OP

This morning I phoned Toolstation and got them to remove the offending entry from their system, they also said the information came from 'Lifestyle Online Data' tried googling but could not find what this is.

O2 on the ther hand were less than helpful and said they could not remove the entry from the system as they wouldn't be able to find the records, despite the fact I knew the Name,Address and phone numbers on the sim cards. After 10 minutes going round in circles I gave up.

Someone mentioned to check my credit file, how do I do this and what will it cost.

    Cheers

Yep I got that but thought that that couldn't be the same company, however I did phone http://www.lifestylesonline.co.uk/ and they said that if this person is on their list they will remove the entry.

As well as running a credit reference agency, Experian also provides marketing services using permission based data such as lifestyle questionnaires, census data etc. But this is a separate part of the business. Credit report data is strictly ring fenced and can't be used to target marketing offers.

I would continue to return any mail to the senders but marked "never at this address" which might prompt an investigation.

This is happening to me at the moment..its very strange.
I've lived her for 17 years and nothing, and in the last 6 weeks I have had letters for 3 different people.
The first was a catalogue for a woman from express mums, the second was a welcome letter from O2 mobile for a pay monthly contract! I called o2 and told thaem I had never heard of this person and they said they would block the number, i'm going to phone them today to check. The name on the letter is Arabic sounding. Then yesterday I got some blokes advantage card coupons! This time a scottish name!
The thing is I looked up these two people on the 192 site and they seem to be registerd on the electoral roll at the same address in my block of flats, but I cant see the number..
    I have a bad feeling here.What can I do? :

there was a scam a while ago where they would order stuff to your house knowing you would be at work arrange for a delivery date and wait outside the house in a car, when the delivery van pulled up they would get out of the car and walk up to the house with a key, delivery men would just hand you the parcel, and drive off, this was done with catalogues, too bulky to post a catalouge through your door, left on doorstep, i had this done to me, tracked back to someone who lived close by,

    Further developments......

I have had no further mail for unknown persons, however it would now appear that over the past few months some valuable items and documents are not arriving at my address despite asking the senders to resend the missing items.

Some of these items are bank documents.

I have just reported this issue to the royal mail:eek:
