why is it that high over a quarter?

if you really cannot pay it then I would contact citizens advicxe bureau but I would also fess up to the company - try to arrange a monthly payment that you can afford but will also pay off the debt. Give regular and accurate meter readings from now on.

(I live in 4 bed detached and my gas bill is only jst above that for whole year!)

    1. Check the bill is correct (e.g. is it based on an actual, correct meter reading?)

    2. Contact the supplier asap. The sooner you contact them the sooner they can start to help you.

have you switched in the last 12 months? My neighbour had a guy sign him up and told him with them they would be £30 a month cheaper (he was paying £80 a month) then for the next 12 months he paid £50 a month and then 12 months later was £360 ish behind.
