Going to put a shower rail up, this would involve drilling through tiles. How easy or hard is it and what drill bit would i use? I think you can get a suction type rail. Would this be a better option?

You need some masking tape to stick to the part of the tile where you're drilling to give the bit some purchase when you start, otherwise the bit will move off centre. :)

Its easy to drill through tiles.

Put some gaffer tape on the tile to stop the drill bit slipping before it 'bites' and use a masonry bit and start slowly. (I think you can get special drill bits for tiles but I have never bothered)

If you are drilling in an area that may get wet, fill the hole with mastic before putting the wallplug in and then fill the wallplug full of mastic as well before putting the screw in.

easy job and will be much better than suction fittings

I have just put hand towel holder, hooks, towel rail and loo roll holder up in our bathroom and never had a problem

As above but don't use "hammer action" until you are through the tile.

In which case get the expanding pole type, so long as there's two walls to put it between. :D :rotfl:

Just be warned that using a suction shower curtain rail isn't fool proof. Ours has come down more than once and done some damage to the inside of the bath. Go with the drilled option.

I've always found it best to start off with a small bit first which is easier to control and once you're through the glaze with whats effectively a pilot hole then its simple to bore a larger proper hole.

Just take your time and have a little patience.

On the subject of suction cups?

Has anybody bought those 'suction cup bathroom accessories'? (Chrome type that tighten by hand, no tools required)

I have, and found out they eventually fall off and are a complete waste of money!
