silly question, in the £700 do you need to budget for a monitor?

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

Not really, I have a nice 19" monitor already which I'm using with my old pc, I also have a decent keyboard so don't really need a new one of those either.

Speaking to a friend last night he suggested a Dell as they are pretty good?

    Or...

Get an extra graphics card and monitor, and have a 2-monitor setup - loads of breathing space on the desktop ;-)

Have the insurance co said who you can order from? Generally they have limited companies that they will let you deal with.

Doesn't mean they can't use linux or be interested in it as a free alternative.

I'd get a £700 PC at best value I can find (pref a dell or sony), flog it for near full value (dell / sony probably easier to sell), and then spend £300 on a PC which will do everything you need, and pocket the rest.
