Unusual (or is it) window problem!

Bit of an odd one here, couldn't find any old threads on it.

My window doesn't lock shut. Before you say replace the handle, it's actually because the window isn't in the right position i.e. the handle works fine, but isn't actually catching on anything to hold it shut, IYSWIM?

I had someone take a look and they said you could lengthen the things (can't remember the word) that hold the window in place?

Then my landlord sent someone round, who subsequently said that every window firm he tried just wanted to replace the whole window, not repair. and i haven't heard any more since.

Is this a DIY job or one for the professionals? :money:

The window looks similar to this:

with hinges (that's the word i was looking for lol!) that look like this:

    http://www.upvcspares.co.uk/ekmps/shops/upvcspares/images/friction%5Bekm%5D301x300%5Bekm%5D.jpg

and because the window is in slightly the wrong place in the frame, the bits that move when you turn the handle don't catch on anything (as they move up and down only, not side to side).

Does that help at all? :rotfl:

Why don't you just adjust the hinges until the bits that move do catch on something then?

Sorry, they're screwed in so that won't work. Thanks for the idea though.

The friction hinges you linked to are attached to the frame by screws through holes A and to the window through holes B.

You'll notice that the holes are oblong allowing positional adjustment of hinge to frame and window within hinge having slackened off the screws.
