I was told if you change your name by deed poll then you have to apply for a new passport. Sucks for me just paid over £80 for a first adult passport and when we get home from out honeymoon I will have to get a new one.

you don't have to. You can keep it in the name it has on it now. Just remember to book the holiday in that name.

Seems a shame to have to pay again when you have 10 years left onit.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

I agree, you can still use your married name without having to officially change it. My mum didn't bother changing her name officially as we have two passports from different countries and she didn't want the hassle, but she still uses her married name on things like utility bills/signing her emails. Most places accept the fact you're married as proof you can call yourself Mrs Husband'ssurname.

When your new passport arrives you need to remember that it isnt valid for travel until the day of your wedding, so you wont be able to go travel with it before then.
Worth noting that you can't use your passport for a lot of things until this date...Most notably, for honeymooning, you can't use it to apply for VISAs and so on.

We're facing an agonising couple of minutes on our wedding day - hoping my OH's ESTA gets approved for travel to the states - otherwise we're up the proverbial creek :)

So, does an ESTA need to be in the married name? (I'd quite like to know as we're thinking of going to the states for our honeymoon.)

Otherwise, why didn't you just book the holiday in the pre-wedding name and use the old passport (presuming there was one)?

Your ESTA can be in your maiden name if you have booked the holiday in your maiden name and the passport is in your maiden name.

I think you have 72hours before your flight to apply for ESTA, so it would depend on when your holiday was after the wedding if you had time or not.

I've got the same, but at least we have have 2 weeks before we travel.
