Looks like the annual tuition fee rise for current graduates is 2.7%. I don't know what measure of inflation this is? Maybe they are using a forecast from the BOE?The settlement – in a letter to the Higher Education Funding Council for England – revealed that existing students who started courses before 2012 would pay £3,465 in fees from this September. This compares to £3,375 at the moment.0

The number of students applying to university in 2011 was down by 10% compared to the previous year, Sky has learned. The report to be published on Monday by the university application service UCAS

Doesn't say what the figures are compared to 2010.
Interesting bit hereMonth-by-month statistics measuring applicants for the last quarter of 2011 do show that people from lower income households are not being put off as much as people from wealthier backgrounds.0 -
Please can someone who knows explain how the loan entitlement is calculated when the parents have two children both in the 2012 cohort?
I have found the section where it says there is an allowance of "£1,130 for any child other than you who is totally or mainly financially dependent on them." Is that it? That is, the allowance is the same whether the other child is a younger child at home or is also a student?0 -

Glad you enjoyed those links. I know you believe less people should go to Uni.
UK university applications in 'steepest fall for 30 years'
Ucas figures show 10% fall in applications from UK students to start studies in 2012However, he said about 140,000 students would still be rejected by universities this summer because institutions were restricted by the number of places they could offer. Last year, almost 210,000 – one in three applicants – failed to get a place.

monxton, I am not that familiar with 2012 calculations but the £1130 income disregard appears to be unchanged from previous years.
This figure will be disregarded from the income figures you submit to Student Finance. If doesn't make any difference as to whether the other child is a student at Uni or a minor at home.
I believe this is correct but someone more knowledgeable may know different.0 -
I'm not sure if I entirely agree. Under new lending rules, banks are now required to include "affordability" as part of the assessment of whether they will give you a mortgage or not. If you are earning over £21K, and let's face it, when you are thinking of buying a house, then you are likely to be, then the banks will take the amount you are paying back into account when deciding how much they will lend.
One less reason to take out a student loan?0 -

They aren't linked to Credit Rating, but yes you are right in that they effect affordability. But they are 2 seperate issues.0 -
