my rights trainers hurt my feet?

Hi i was wondering if anyone could shed any light on what rights i have regarding some skechers trainers i recently bought.
3 weeks ago i bought some skechers tone up trainers and they wasnt cheap they cost me £70.
I tried them on in the shop and they felt fine however i have now worn them 6 times. And each time within 30 mins i start to experience terrible ankle pain. I know they are meant to make your muscles work but this is like a joint pain.
I contacted skechers direct to which they said contact the shop i bought them from.
So i did and they have told me i can only have a exchange but no refund.
I am unhappy with this as the shop only did a small range and there wasnt anything else i wanted i just wanted these trainers.
I have a receipt so would of liked a refund to go else were and buy some different trainers.
What i would like to know are they within the rights just to refuse a refund or would they be classed not fit for purpose.
Any advice most appreciated.

so the shop is responsible and unless the goods are faulty, an exchange is pretty much all you can get and that's only goodwill. i don't know how the trainers could cause joint pain tbh. even non-supportive shoes shouldn't do that within 30 mins......

I have quite flat feet so maybe thats why they hurt however i did tell them that when i bought them. But skechers are usually good for people with flat feet thats why i bought them.

Do you have plantar fasciitis? If so, the shoes should help, but will take some getting used to. I am no doctor so please don't take this as advice, but my experience with FitFlops (they work on the same principle) is that I originally had this pain but had to walk through it in order for it to stop. Maybe worth persevering?

I am not sure if i have plantar fasciitis ive not heard of it.
But i saw a physio a few years ago who said i have flat feet that causes my knee pain.
Dont think i will just persist with the pain incase it causes me more problems.Infact even if i wanted to the pain was that bad i had to stop walking.

Again, purely anecdotal, but my mum had terrible problems with PF and now swears by FitFlops, she will not wear anything else. My concern for her is that she may be masking the problem rather than solving it, but from what I know there is not any actual cure so I am probably being overcautious!

Sorry OP you can't insist on a refund as the trainers are not faulty. You could ask for a credit note though and wait until something more suitable comes in. The store are being very reasonable, after three weeks most would not even offer an exchange. There may even be a chance that a family member or friend could buy the credit note from you.

Stick with them for a while until you get used to walking in them. If not go and see an osteopath who will be able to diagnose better (imo) then a physio and give you some proper help with your feet.

I have flat feet, and have foot, ankle, and knee pain if I wear shoes without arch supports. Maybe ask your GP for a referral to see if you could benefit from arch supports?
  • I wear those trainers. They are meant to make your muscles work hard and yes, they did ache a lot at first. But then it wore off as I continued to wear them for increasing periods of time and I now find them some of the most comfortable footwear I own.
