Vat relief?

I have MS and use a stick or an elbow crutch for balance and stability. We've done work at the front door to widen steps and make them safer. We have just got a quote for fitting a hand-rail along the front of the house leading to the door. Does anyone know if we can claim VAT relief on this? I've read the HMRC guidelines on this but they only seem to talk about ramps. I know we could have fitted a ramp but I don't feel safe on ramps.

Yes, it is possible to claim VAT relief on handrails.
I bought mine from a disability store and signed an in-store declaration form to confirm my disability and got the VAT taken off the price.0 -
Thanks Prinzessilein, I've bought some stuff from that sort of retailer before and they had a pad of declaration forms but this is being custom made by a local blacksmith so I don't think he'd be geared up for that sort of thing. I'll ask him anyway, just in case he's done this sort of thing before. He may have done as he was recommended by my OT.When dancing with dragons, don't let your partner lead.0

There is no definitive list, it has to be a disabled product designed and made for disabled use. A chair for example can be a recliner, but non disabled use recliners so its not ZERO VAT. A Lift & Rise recliner is designed for the standing the disabled up and is ZERO VAT.
Which [ large, difficult to move, and generally fixed in place to some extent ] white goods ?Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
