A Question About Roof Area

One of the questions in my Budget policy ask me, if more then half my roof area is flat. To be honest from looking at it from ground level it looks about 50/50, but the insurance company now want's me to work out what percentage is slate/tile as against flat roof.

How can you honestly know the answer, unless you actually measure the areas. Has everybody else on here, been ask this question? Would be interested to know.

Think most insurers ask this, although the proportions vary - some ask if it's over a third of the area. Some distinguish between roof area and house area - this was from phoning round years ago as I have a single-storey flat-roof extension.

You'll have to get the tape measure out if you want to be sure (or count the bricks - x times y works in bricks or feet...).

I got a very competitive quote from them on line last night and noticed this question. I had never been asked this before and as we only have a kitchen extn with a flat roof I ignored it. Today I paid them and was annoyed when they gave me two telephone numbers both commencing 0870 if I need to make a claim or get in touch with them. Will have to see now if I can find an 0800 number.
