Hello
I am currently with Scotish Power and with price increases coming up I have started to compare prices.
From the image I have taken here
spoweri.jpgspowers.jpg%20target=_blank%3Espowers.jpga%3Espowers.jpgspowers.jpgspowers.jpg

How would i work out the average consumption of each fuel?
The way i have done it is the daily average over 4 times so for instance gas would be 82+122+71+23+68= 366 divide 366 by 5 = 74 (upto the nearest whole number)

Then 74 x 365 = 27,010

Or do I need to work it out a different way?

No I don't unfortunately. The account we have with SP is an online account.

the closest you`ve got from the screenshot is feb `10 to march `11 0 its about a week difference , so maybe add those up and divide by the days given.

From 24/2/10 until the 1/3/11 (4 days more than a full year)

    Consumption: 5062 kwh of electric
    26382 kwh of gas

Thats 4 days of electric and gas consumption on top of your annual consumption.
Therefor doing a comparison on those figures is a very close indication of your yearly consumption.
Divide them by 369 for ur daily average consumption.

Your figure seems fine as an estimate. (27,000 for gas.)

(I got 27,600 approx using 19 Jun to 22 May* figures.)

Electricity is easier to approximate - 14 kWh per day times 365 is good enough.

    * 25,345 total for approx 11 months. Multiply by 365/335 to approximate an annual sum.

You should receive an annual statement. If you haven't, ask your supplier for one.

Ferr96 has the same figures i have , and personally would use them tbh as its pretty much what your annual statement would say.

Do it a different way. Add up the totals and add up the number of days. Divide the sum of totals by the sum of days to get a daily new average. Multiply by 365 to get an annual figure

You have averaged some averages. This is not accurate. Doing it as I have suggested gives you your own average.

Thanks for the help and information supplied I'm going to use the formulas suggested and find out how much cheaper I can get it using a comparison site like Uswitch.

    Hi Andrew
I have a online account with Scottish power and I received an annual statement or "keeping you informed letter" in April 2011, it contains the Gas & Elec Wh individual totals used last year & estimated Wh cost for both Gas & Elec for the coming year. All the info you need, first check to see if your on a capped tariff before you change or you will loose out. My tariff is capped until Sept 2012 and I did the price comparision check on the recommended sites from M.S.Expert and it worked out that I will save around £200 staying with Scottish Power until that date.
The only way I could save is going with another service that offers 2years capped and I dont think they exist.
phone this number 0845 2700 700 and ask for your "keeping you informed letter" to be sent out again.
