Challenging a TFL Penalty Charge Notice

Hi,
One of my drivers got a ticket yesterday while making a delivery to commercial premesis on Winders Road, Wandsworth, London. He was in a bay but explained to me that 12" - 18" from the back of the trucks body was outside the box, just the overhang - not the wheels... and the warden busted him for it. Apparently it was the end parking space so the back of the truck was effectively 12" - 18" over a single line (not sure if yellow or red at the moment) and this was not causing obstruction to any traffic or junctions in anyway.
He has photo's but I have yet to see them.
Is this worth contesting? Having never challenged a ticket before I don't know how stringent they are... if they will not accept any part of a vehicle being outside the boundary of a single parking space - then we're stuffed. But if there is case for being resonable, with only a small overhang - which is not causing any obstruction - then it must be worth a letter??
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Yes, appeal, I would appeal ANY Council or TFL ticket to adjudication. Most people still win, especially with the right approach and advice.
And you have the wrong end of the stick slightly, do not assume you would be stuffed if 'they' will not accept any part of a vehicle being outside the boundary of a single parking space. There are LOADS more grounds to check out that you could appeal on, to do with the legality of the lines, signs, Traffic Order, the PCN itself, lots more to go on than just how much the van was overhanging a bay line.
Post a new topic on pepipoo forums, they are the experts on appealing PCNS:
http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showforum=30
No point just copying & pasting the above post, you must also add pictures of all pages of the PCN (just blank out the reg number and PCN number, leave visible the location and all dates as these are important). And can you also show them a picture of the bay lines & signs - or at least a Google StreetView link to the place where he parked? Put it on pepipoo, not here as we have fewer experts.
And as regards the slight overhang of the van over the line - this is an appeal point on its own (adjudications have been won on a decision of 'de minimis' = it was a mere trifle that should have been ignored). But pepipoo can add more meat to the bones of that appeal for you.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
