Alternatives to rinse aid in dishwasher

Hi
Immediately at the end of a wash cycle in my Miele dishwasher (G1143SC), foam remains though it dissipates about 10 mins later. After going through the trouble shooting steps with Miele support, it appears this is caused by Fairy rinse aid. The dishwasher is set to use the recommended dosage of 3ml rinse aid, if i lower the dosage (or use none at all), then there's no foam left over but then the dishes don't dry properly. I've tried other rinse aid brands but they don't dry the dishes as well as Fairy does. I use Tesco's own cheap dishwasher power (3kg) which lasts me a couple of months and cleans well...it would cost far too much to use all-in-one tablets so will stick with dishwasher powder.I live in a very soft water area.
Miele have kindly agreed to send me 1 litre of their own brand rinse aid free of charge to see if this cures the foam problem , hopefully this should do the job as well as the Fairy brand but without the excessive foam. In the event that it doesn't work as well, are their any alternatives to using rinse aid? In the dishwasher user manual it says you can use vinegar (white wine?) instead but surely my dishwasher would then smell of a chippy? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
