It has nothing to do with credit scoring, regardless of what you apply for an enquiry is made with the credit reference agencies to establish your identity. If you have someone else on your application when the enquiry is made it will link the two people together.

    Its the same for addresses.

And who told you Savings accounts wern't credit scored. A search is preformed to see if the person is bankrupt or in IVA.

If you apply for the First Reserve, the terms and conditions in the application say the following

Your application will be assessed using credit reference agency records relating to anyone with whom you have a joint account or similar financial association. If this is a joint application and such a link does not already exist then one may be created now. These links will remain until you file a "notice of disassociation" at the credit reference agencies.

I have a joint savings account. My credit report shows no mention of this (nor any other) savings account, and no mention of any other person.

Firstly, I claim no expert insider knowledge of credit reference agencies and how they are used by banks for different accounts. However, what can be said is that savings accounts definitely should not show on a credit report in the Account Information section. I don't think even Toe-Jam is suggesting that they would.

However, savings accounts are also unlikely to be credit scored by a financial institution. They are certainly very unlikely to run a full credit search with a credit reference agency for a savings account (why would they increase their costs by doing this when they are not offering credit on the account!).

Enquiring against your credit file for identity purposes (name and/or address) will be done as a matter of course, and I see no reason why a CIFAS marker would not be reported as part of the identity enquiry as the reason for conducting the enquiry in the first place is in part fraud prevention. Whether the address gets linked when this enquiry relates to a joint savings account only is something which appears to be unclear based on anecdotal evidence (i.e. people checking their own credit reports when their only association with another individual is via a joint savings account). It could be possible that whether you are linked to the other joint account holder in such a circumstance is simply dependent on the financial institution's policy (i.e. whether they themselves create a financial link only for all applications or just credit applications).
