the bottle of Oak Lane mayonnaise in the fridge says "produced in Belgium for Tesco Stores Ltd" so it's a Tesco own-brand.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
They already do 'Daisy' washing powder. Trattoria Verdi may also be one of theirs....other suspicions include Oak Lane, Mermaid Bay and Country Store.
Yes, this is the range I think the OP is asking about. Others in the range include:
Sun Grown long life orange juice
Eastmans crisps
Centennial nuts
All About Shine shampoo/haircare
Country Barn breakfast cereals
Sunsip fizzy drinks
Spring Force toilet roll
Claude cat food
The Curry Leaf cooking sauces & ready meals
Ryelands chocolate bars
They were launched nearly 3 years ago as part of the "Discount Brands at Tesco" campaign, in direct response to Aldi who also have these made-up brand names.
Pricewise, they sit between the Value range and the standard Tesco own brand, but I'm pretty sure they're identical in quality and ingredients to the standard Tesco own brand.
They do identify themselves as Tesco products on the back in small text, but never on the front.0 -
This story was published on http://www.kantarretailiq.com it mentions a few brand names which are likely to appear.31 May 2011 — Tesco to Launch New Brands
Tesco has announced that it will launch the first of its range of new brands in food and non-food over the next few weeks. Although the brands will be owned by Tesco, they will not use the Tesco brand itself. The retailer is expected to reveal more details shortly. Kantar Retail research shows that brands recently registered by Tesco include Choka Blok (ice cream), Lathams, Nutridog and Nutricat (all petcare), Muse (confectionery), Parade (household paper products), Parioli (food & drink), Streetwise (electronics), R3V5/REVZ and Carousel (toys), and KX and Joocie (drinks).
Tesco's F&F and Technika brands are set to be extended too according to this article.

No, it's a brand produced by another company and only sold to Tesco. What I am talking about is Tesco producing it's own products under it's own brands with no mention of it being connected to Tesco on the packaging.0 -
Just saw on my Tesco online that nutricat, lathams and choka blok were listed and the prices were . Let's just say these are NOT discounted brands.....0

I guess it's to capture those who won't buy supermarket value range, but will buy it if it has a "brand name" on it.
One of their discount brands blocks of cheese had exactly the same nutritional value all the way down the list as the Tesco own brand, so i'm guessing you could be right. Was approx. £1 cheaper too.
No mention of Tesco on the discount brand from what I could find, but I may have missed it.0 -
ThatGuy, I was reminded of this thread when i saw the Pariolo range in store last week and could find no mention on the pack of "made for tesco". I was a bit miffed that the price was more similar to that of Napolina than tesco's own. TBH if I wanted to pay £1.19 for 500g Italian pasta I would buy Napolina rather than a tesco wannabe (JMO).
It's only a game
