you need the card it plugged into, that's just the aerial
I meant, your needs aren't demanding, the existing laptop will work plugged into your screen and keyboard and will do wireless, you are about to spend 100's on a desktop, you could also get a new laptop for daughter with that money
They should all last longer than 2 yrs 5 months, and if they don't I suggest you use the sale of goods act to get them fixed free instead of replacing them. This will be easier if the machine is branded and bought from a well known shop
What was the diagnosis for all your failed pc's, and why is the laptop driving you mad?!!

one thing to consider.....
in a desktop, ALWAYS go for twin DVD drives. Why? you may ask.....
If you're copying stuff, it's quicker and easier.
When you burn disks, you can spread the load between the two drives so each will last longer.
And most important of all, if one drive does pack in, YOU HAVE ANOTHER ONE SO YOU'RE NEVER STUCK WITHOUT ONE !!!......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

Our router is downstairs so need wireless whatever its called. I have a 22inch HP screen bought recently and wirless keyboard land mouse from the HP one. Daughter is 14 and has a laptop which I`m on at the moment and this will be upgraded for her Xmas pressie. I don`t think I would ever want to add to the system. I have microsoft office 2007 but need to get a new key! for it as its been used 3 times have been told can get a new number by ringing up and telling them old computer died..but don`t know who to call!
No don`t have to buy well known brand just thought HP as everything else we have in the house is HP. I did think the price quoted from the local shop might have been cheaper! but my problem is not really knowing much about this type of thing have always gone for a `make` with everything on it. I would prefer a small case but since having mine have heard that this could have been the reason it died!
Pinkypants those systems look ok thank you - I`ve not heard of this company before! 3 year warranty is very good (I know labour is covered but I havn`t a clue how much parts cost) I see I have to add a wireless thingie do you go for the USB or the wireless card? they don`t seem to do small cases on their list. Can you tell me if they come installed with adbobe, Internet explorer etc all the stuff the HP ones have on?
Thanks again..your help if much appreciated.
if you have a good monitor/keyboard etc, you just need a tower
