£4,700 for two upvc bay windows?

We have two timber bay windows in our 1930’S semi that are in dire need to some attention.
I had Zenith windows come round last night to give me a ‘two year no obligation quote’ and that came out at £12K.
He was at great pains to insist that he wasn’t a salesman but a ‘portfolio consultant’ and if we agreed to be a showhome he could reduce that to £7,600.
Cut a long story short he ended up putting a call in to his manager and as a special one off price came down to £4,700 on their finance arrangement.
I know that the whole process is hokum and that he was a salesman but is this a fair price for two white upvc bay windows?
The ground floor one consists of five large windows with five small windows above. This needs toughened glass and the bottom of the window is under 900mm from the floor and wouls have just one of the small windows opening. Five units in total measuring 1700 x 600.
The upper floor one consists of five large windows with five small windows above. This would have one large and one small window which opens. Five units in total measuring 1500 x 600.
The windows are structrual so would need supports. He said it would be a two day job.
In the cold light of day I’m thinking that this seems quite pricey.
We live in Ipswich.
Thanks for your replies.

I can remember we paid £4500 for the windows in an entire big house when we used a local independent guy and that was wood effect, leaded, dummy sashes, chrome handles etc. all of which add to the price. We buy our own now so it's even less.
I have family who aren't local and they got a firm to their one bay, including inserting the original stained glass back into the new units for £1200. That was a three bay window
Without openers, the windows should be a lot cheaper than ones that do open. Make sure your design is decent and that the windows that don't open have dummy sashes so that they don't look cheap. Other wise you end up with a really uneven look and it doesn't do the house any justice.
I'd have a look out for a local, independent firm. They won't knock on your door, they may not even have an office that they work out of, but they will be more competitive. Ask them for addresses of houses they've done recently so that you can go and have a nosey at them.
We've been known to knock on people's doors with nice looking windows and asked them where they got them from!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

4700 for 10 windows isn't that bad imo, you should however get at least two more quotes just to be sure
it sounds expensive because you are thinking of it as two windows when in reality it is 10 individual windowsThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Window fitters are very short of work.
Ring round keep getting quotes, I think you could half this.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
i paid 1500 for two bays a few yrs ago now.
a local manchester company.
as a guide line, (rough budgeting) windows should cost about 400 quid per unit.
add extra for bays etc...
get some more quotes from locals. keep well away from the nationals.
or shysters as we call em.Get some gorm.0 -

400 quid per unit, 10 units for the ops bay windows = 4k
so not that far off then? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
