Limited company pickup/van insurance - can policy be in a private name?

Hi folks
I am a co-director of a small limited company - I have been looking to buy a Mitsubishi L200 pickup truck through the company as a business vehicle. Van insurance quotes are coming up astronomical to say the least, would I be able to insure this vehicle in my own name and just put it down as primarily business mileage? Or do I need to bite the bullet as the company will own the car?
Hope this makes sense, thanks for your help.

I have a policy for a van owned by our Ltd Co where I am neither the legal owner nor the registered keeper of the vehicle.
Only some companies will cover you this way and it has to be specified when you take the policy.
This means I can use the No Claims I have built up over the years which was not transferable to the Ltd so saved a lot. We also found, strangely, that Direct Line, for example, advertised van insurance but when we 'phoned told us they did not insure businesses!
If you are stuck finding a provider I will dig out the paperwork and check who we use.0 -
You can insure it in your name, but you must tell them a ltd co own the van. I use Elephant, it was the cheapest I could find.0

As others say, the difficulty will be that you as the proposer are not the legal owner nor presumably the registered keeper.
It's still possible to insure yourself, but the range will be limited especially using online comparison sites, so the cost would be higher than if it was your vehicle. Best to use a broker to find you a good deal - they may be able to find a comparable one that allows the company to insure it"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Another option is to purchase the van yourself and insure it in your name and then hire the van and driver (you) to the Ltd Company0
