Don't pay for overpriced, overhyped hardware when you can get the same performance elsewhere for less.
haha LOL -that is funny0 -
I got a macbook and well chuffed with it, got the student discount, quidco cashback, £60 printer cashback and £100 ipod cashback which quite chuffed plus they made an agreement that higher education gets 3yrs warranty which is usually expensive.
As for this matter I would expect it to be terms of the contract they they do not de-value the product. It seems that they have built up such a reputation with ipods and quality products they dont want poor customer service from external companies 2 wreck this so that could be a reason.
Well worth getting one0 -
check out the Apple warranty covers you for troubles abroad as their warranties are country specific, except for (I think they said) macbook pro?
I asked when they had a sale, only to be told they don't DO sales. ooooh.
plus make sure you are happy with the macbook keyboard as it's different and takes a while to get used to, if you're used to PC lappy keyboards.
Also I think they do discounts for part time students too.0 -

Yes, and Windows-based PCs never go wrong, do they?
Why, I surf the internet without a firewall and I leave Windows with all the security options turned off! No-one hacks into my computer and steals my credit card details. I certainly don't have pop-ups every five seconds and no-one's using my PC to send spam.
And what relevance does an iPod story have to do with an Apple computer? That's like saying that XBox 360 failures affect Office 2003 security holes. They don't.
MacBook shutdown issues have largely gone away, thanks to firmware updates and free repairs from Apple.
The fifteen month old Dell laptop I use at work began to discolour six months ago.
Macs may be more expensive than PCs, but you get OS X, which is markedly superior to Windows in every way. They look better and last longer.
If you have nothing constructive to contribute, perhaps you should stay away from Apple threads in the future and desist from trolling.0 -

Unix back end.
Closer integration between hardware and software.
Free development tools.
No faffing around with drivers.
No pointless legacy interfaces (PS/2, parallel, serial anyone?)
No activation of operating system.
No Windows Genuine Advantage.
No Mr Clippy.
No registry to get clogged up.
Drag and drop installation and removal of software.
And so on.0 -

I' m married to a computer consultant who swears PCs are better than macs.
He spends about 20 hours a day fixing them when they go wrong.
A good friend is a mac consultant and she spends her time showing people all the things they can do without EVER being asked to fix one!!!!!
And the prettiness is a bonus!!!!

In response to the initial post about the cost of Apple equipment, I offer the following editorial which may be of interest:

Perhaps a partial explanation.0 -
That's it AJBaker.
Apple do give resellers carte blanche to offer free upgrades so if you look at somewhere like MicroAnvika they'll offer you extra memory at a better price than Apple will.
The Apple education stores offer the best regular discounts though:
7-8% through the regular Education store (schools, colleges and people who work in them)
10-15% (higher for the pro machines) in the Higher Education store.
I've heard rumours that some universities with strong technology departments offer up to 25% discount but I can't confirm it.
Note that for the HE discount you have to connect to the Apple Store from your university network.
Alternatively you have to play the system and use a combination of Quidco, cashback credit cards and discount codes.
Or wait for another 20% off at John Lewis - a lot of people bought Macs then.
Or wait for Tesco to start selling them and then check out the Tesco Misprices thread0 -

I work a lot with IT and know a boring amount about it. I ditched my usual brand for a Mac over a year ago. The difference is not only that the iBook doesn't crash (it never has) but also that it really is whiter!
Claire, you may *think* your obsessive about Macs but you've not met me!
The choice is very simple. If your hobby is restarting computers, get the thing that everyone else has. If you want a computer that works, get a Mac.
End of.
