Opera Browser

Hi All

I was quite impressed by Opera.. so much so, I have been using exclusively for a wee while now.. Since it was recommended by another poster. However, as much as I enjoy the speed etc etc.. I have found that there are some web sites that I can't open and I wondered if anyone else was having the same problem... At first, I thought it was a one off and that there must have been something wrong with the site, but today I received an email from EDF energy asking me to confirm my email address and when I clicked the link, I got the message..

The specified URL cannot be found.

I was also unable to open 'my account' on the EDF home page.. although I didn't have the problems when I checked with Internet Explorer..

Any ideas ? I don't really want to go back to IE as it is really slow...

Cheers

Strange, you will need to use IE or Firefox for that login. It is EDF. The link is here.

I've just been through this with EDF, spoke to the cust serv and they recon it's beacuse of a major system upgrade they've been going through for a wee while. I was ok on Monday with IE though, so do what I do and keep IE as a backup browser for these odd occasions that you need it, 'coz opera still rocks :)

Tools/QuickPreferences/EditSitePreferences and select 'Mask as Firefox' at the bottom. It then loads properly. Whether it works when you try and log in I wouldn't know.

I must say that is a pretty dumb page that says 'the specified URL cannot be found' which is on their own site... Why not have a page saying 'to use this site you need the following browers..'. But most of these things are due to ignorance of web authors who think there is nothing other than IE and Netscape.

Thanks to everyone who gave me advice on this one... It was a genuine link for edf... and I still got the same message with 'stilltheone's' link.. so I will report the site problem as 'bunshopbandit suggests ... and I did what 'spenderdave' suggested and the link worked...

    Thanks for all the posts....:T

Actually I tried that before replying to the OP and it still didn't work....the login itself that is. That's why I didn't suggest it. Perhaps something else happened in between.

In the future if a similar thing happens, the shortcut is F12...

Just tested it and it does work now. It certainly didn't when I tested it yesterday. All's well that ends well. :)

Worked for me...thanks very much for the tip. Password Manager doesn't seem to work with it though. It remembers the details and fills them in but it doesn't execute them properly. Never mind I will have to remember the password each time I log in. It's better than going to Firefox every time I want to log in!

One issue with opera I have is the ip address it detects. Firefox and IE will both recognise me as being in the NW of England, just checked with opera - I'm either in Poland or just off the coast in Nigeria, could this be an issue with some sites? (the ip number is different from the one ff or ie detects)
