  • Do you want the 'best' way, or the best way to do it yourself on the cheap?

eg, steamroller vs spade, spirit level, string, time and sweat.
    It's only numbers.

A lot of hard back breaking work.
Dig it all up and keep raking and rolling , maybe get some new top soil.
Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

  • I think a lot depends on exactly how level you want/need it.
Do you want a surface suitable for crown green bowls or just even enough so that you don't trip over and it's easy to mow?

To level you have two options:

    1. Clear, rotovate and then level with rake.
    2. Bring in top soil and skim it over the lawn.

If its little holes you want to fill in go for option 2 as its easier. Option 1 is best for undulating ground that would take many metres/tonnes of soil to level off.

Size of lawn, access with rotovator, condition of existing grass, how hard the ground is, etc should also be considered.
